Dr. Sunita M. Loum

Deputy Director

Sunita Manu Loum is a native of West Africa. She is born to a Ghanaian father and a Liberian mother. Sunita was born during the civil war of Liberia and her family migrated to the Ivory Coast to seek refuge through the United Nations. Like many war victims, Sunita’s childhood was filled with grief, poverty, and uncertainties. But God remained constant in her life and that of her family even when they knew very little of Him. After a few years in the Ivory Coast, Sunita and her family were given an opportunity to migrate to the United States in 2005 as Liberian Refugees. Like the girls/women served by FREE, Sunita was a young refugee girl with very little hope for her future. But God intervened and changed the course of her destiny. Sunita now holds a PhD in Public Health from Saint Louis University with an interest and focus on Immigrant and Refugee health – an interest nurtured through her lived experiences. Sunita also comes with years of experience in youth mentorship. Her involvement with FREE stems from her passion for giving back to her community, and her assignment to be her sister’s keeper. Sunita strongly believes that FREE is a vehicle God is using to change the course of destiny for girls and women in Liberia who have been forgotten.
